Something that I am currently researching is the idea of Social and Emotional Learning and incorporating SEL into everyday teaching practices. If students are not used to seeing this model, it may take some scaffolding to ensure that they understand the process and how it can be used when completing a project. If I were to use it as a student resource, I believe I would choose to design a project template that incorporated all of the components, but in a more structured format. I think the KWHLAQ chart shown above, in that specific format, could potentially be overwhelming for students. However, I do believe the benefit of a KWL chart is it’s simplicity. I do believe there is more that goes into an inquiry-based or an independent research project than students (and sometimes teachers) may be aware of. But, if you have the vision and the skills, it is possible to produce visually stunning presentations that will. It is not a platform for the creatively faint-hearted. I like the idea of expanding the KWL chart. Prezi, like Google Slides, is a web-based presentation tool that means it retains an element of accessibility that is lost with Keynote. I am wondering if anyone has seen or implemented this type of chart into the classroom? If not, would you use it in the classroom? Why or why not? What further questions do you have? (it is important for students to be reflective and they can use technology or collaborate with others to discover answers to unanswered questions) What action will you take? (this allows students to demonstrate what they have learned to someone else, develop new ideas or to develop what they have learned into something like an action project)
How students will find out information? (this can lead to a lot of inquiry tasks or lessons) I truly believe that our KWL chart use needs to be adapted for the 21 st century. While I was looking through my twitter feed the other day, I came across a different form of a KWL chart posted by Brian Aspinall. Click the button below to learn more.Do you remember doing KWL charts in school and even university? What do you KNOW, what do you WANT to know, and what did you LEARN? They were basic, got to the point, and had the opportunity to be a form of assessment of what students understood.
